How to Track Your Workouts and See Real Progress
October 13, 2026If you don't write it down, it's hard to know whether you're improving. A workout log turns "I think I'm getting stronger" into proof.
What to write down
- The date and the type of workout
- Each exercise, with sets, reps and weight
- For cardio: time, distance and how hard it felt
- A quick note on energy, sleep or anything that felt off
Use it to progress
Before each workout, look at what you did last time and aim to do a little more: one more rep, a bit more weight or a slightly faster time. Small, steady increases add up.
Track more than the scale
Body measurements, how your clothes fit and how much you can lift often change before the scale does. Measure every few weeks rather than every day.
Plan your week
Write your workouts into your week like appointments. Two or three planned sessions you actually do beat five you skip.

The Workout and Fitness Log has pages to log workouts, sets, reps and body measurements. Pair it with a free habit tracker to keep the streak going.
If you're new to exercise or have a health condition, check with a doctor before starting a new program.
